How to reach your exact target audience?

The short answer is: It always comes down to the first sentence/paragraph - your headline.

And why is that?

Because that’s the first thing that the reader sees.

It’s a crucial part of every ad and not just every ad but also every conversation and even every human interaction.

What you wear for a job interview is a headline. The sentence you start the conversation with is a headline.  And if you get this one wrong, no matter how good the rest of your ad will be because no one will ever get the chance to read it.

And why am I saying that?

Because if it doesn’t answer their question of why they should care about your ad they’ll get confused and as I explained in marketing tenet #1, they’ll do the absolute worst thing. Nothing. From the beginning, you have to make sure they know what’s going on. If not, they won’t read further and they’ll lose interest.

No one is pointing a gun to their head to make sure they read the entire ad. So make sure you get your point across in the hook and make sure that the people who read it know what you are talking about.

You should write your headline as if there was no text after that and still make sure that the customer knows roughly what it is about.

So how do you give them a good hook?

Well, how do you make someone pay attention at a train station?

You yell their name. That’s your best chance. If they don’t pay attention to that, they won’t listen to you no matter what. It immediately tells them that hey, it’s for you. And if something is for you, you will 100% listen to that.

In real life it’s easy. However, on Facebook, you cannot yell their names, you cannot even say their names because that’s considered personal information.

So how do you hook them then?

If you look at the name analogy you can see that their names are something they care about and something that is specifically about them.

So for example if you sell batteries, your best chance is probably: are you looking for a long-lasting battery?

If they see this, they will think: Oh it’s for me, I care about this stuff.

And it’s just something I came up with in literally 2 seconds.

You don’t have to overcomplicate this.

You just have to make sure that it’s something that makes the consumer feel like the offer is tailored for them.
